ABOUT
biography
The designer Eque M. was born in 1980 in Japan. He grew up in a culture very much attached to ancient traditions and has nourished his passion for glasses from the time he was very young.
The Japanese are renowned in the world over as perfectionists and continuously strive for excellence through accurate details… “
The immense amount of work which lies behind these glasses is better the less noticeable it is”.
Eque subsequently moves from Japan to the West Coast of the United States of America, to complete his studies in Art and Design.
He starts to collaborate with famous eyewear brands in the USA like Salt, for whom he becomes designer and responsible for production (initially completely produced in Japan).
Presently he continues the activity of controlling the productions for some very famous eyewear brands of the niche market.
It was after this important experience that Eque M. was inspired to go back to his country and establish
Frency & Mercury and create a line of sunglasses and optical glasses inspired by the west coast style.
Eque believes that eyewear is not just an accessory, but also a lifestyle. In fact the fundamental concept behind Frency & Mercury is “Let yourself be as graceful as you are…”.
His creations not only give a touch of glamour but also an interior charme to the person wearing them.
The introduction of the brand Frency & Mercury in the Asian market was immediately appreciated by important people in the fashion, art and music business and also by the most important fashion and optical Japanese stores.
The last distinctive trait is the quality of the materials used: pure titanium 100% in all the metallic parts except for some details in gold 18k or silver 925, seasoned Japanese acetate and only CR39 lenses with anti-reflective coating and the exemplary manufacture executed by the best craftsmen of Fukui (Japanese capital for eyewear excellence).
Completely hand made, the frames undergo long and meticulous processes, which give them their very high standard of quality, prestigious details and a long durability, thus staying unique even over time.
